Orange County SSA Benefits
The County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) offers Medi-Cal health insurance, CalFresh food assistance, CalWORKs cash assistance for families, and General Relief cash assistance for individuals.
In addition, the SSA assists customers in the following areas:
- Adopt/Foster Care & Youth Services
- Abuse Reporting
- Health Care Services
- Elder/Disabled In-Home Services

Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal is California’s version of the Federal Medicaid program. Medi-Cal offers no-cost and low-cost health coverage to eligible people who live in California.

CalFresh
CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps) is a nutrition program that supplements a low-income family’s food budget in order to ensure they are getting adequate nutrition.
CalFresh can only be used to purchase food items and beneficiaries receive benefits electronically on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.

CalWORKs
The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program provides temporary financial assistance and employment-focused services to families with minor children who have income and property below State maximum limits for their family size.
If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing, or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help.
Participation in the GAIN program is mandatory for all CalWORKs participants unless exempt. GAIN provides employment-related services to CalWORKs participants.

General Assistance/Relief (GA/GR) Program
The General Assistance/Relief (GA/GR) Program provides financial assistance to California residents who have no other means of support. Single adults, couples, and families may be eligible.

Restaurant Meals Program
The Restaurant Meals Program (RMP) allows the homeless, disabled, and elderly (age 60 and over) receiving CalFresh benefits to use their California EBT cards to purchase meals from participating restaurants.

Apply On-Line with Your Benefits Now
The easiest and quickest way to apply for SSA benefits is online at MyBenefits CalWIN.
MyBenefits CalWIN is a website for Orange County Residents to apply for and to view their benefits online.
Currently, MyBenefits CalWIN supports CalWORKs, CalFresh, General Relief, and MediCal applications.

Apply By Phone
Additionally, you can apply for benefits with the SSA by phone.
Call the Customer Service Center (CSC) (800) 281-9799 to have an application mailed to you.
Apply In Person
Lastly, you can apply for SSA benefits in person at any Health & Human Services Agency Office.
You can pick up a paper application at your local SSA office, complete it and drop it off at the same location.
