You are only allowed to buy food you are taking home to prepare.

Therefore, when it comes to Deli foods, you cannot buy hot food from the deli or prepared foods like mac n cheese, chicken or sandwiches, stuff from the salad bar.

CalFresh FAQs

Here are some of the top questions we get about CalFresh.

Why Did I Receive $95 in CalFresh Benefits this Month?

Did you receive a $95 food stamps deposit on your EBT card this month? Here’s why:

As part of the Food Stamps Emergency Allotment (EA) that was approved as part of the stimulus bill in March 2021, food stamps beneficiaries were approved for extra benefits through September 2021.

Effective April 2021, all CalFresh households will receive a minimum EA of $95 per month in food stamps benefits.

This new minimum EA applies regardless of household size.

Who is Eligible for a $600 Golden State Stimulus?

Here are the groups of California residents who qualify for the Golden State Stimulus:

First, California residents who qualify for the state Earned Income Tax Credit on their 2020 tax returns are eligible.

Generally, California tax filers who earn less than $30,000 a year are eligible for that credit.

Second, California households enrolled in the CalWORKS program also Qualify.

Third, recipients of SSI/SSP and the state’s Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) also qualify.

Lastly, undocumented immigrants who live in households that earn less than $75,000 a year also qualify.

If I get CalFresh am I taking benefits away from other people?

No. CalFresh is an entitlement program.

Therefore, everyone who qualifies for CalFresh will get benefits.

In the state of California, there are about 4 million people who are eligible but not receiving CalFresh.

For every $5 of CalFresh spent in a community, another $9 of local economic activity is generated.

Therefore, CalFresh dollars help support jobs and businesses in your community.

How Long Can I Receive CalFresh Benefits?

There is no time limit for how long eligible individuals and families can receive CalFresh.

However, in order to maintain benefits, CalFresh recipients are required to fill out semi-annual reports and annual recertifications.

Where are my CalFresh Food Stamps?

CalFresh benefits are electronically issued to your personal Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Card – also called the Golden State Advantage Card.

Benefits are available to you during the first ten days of the month, as long as you have turned in your paperwork on time.

See the California Food Stamps Benefit Deposit Schedule.
