FAQ on using EBT online in California

Here are the most frequently asked questions about using an EBT card to shop online and about California EBT Card in general:

Can I order online and pick up my items?

Yes. However, the option to pick up your online items is dependent on which retailer you purchase from.

For example, when you buy your groceries online using your EBT card through Amazon, you cannot select pick-up.

When you buy your groceries online using your EBT card through Walmart, you can schedule a grocery pick-up at no charge.

Other grocery stores that accept CalFresh online, like Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons, provide the option to “Drive Up and Go”, where you bring your EBT card to the pickup area to make payment and receive your items purchased.

Is there a delivery fee for using CalFresh Online?

It depends on the retailer.

When you spend $35 or more on groceries online from Amazon, home delivery is free.

Also, depending on the location, a delivery fee may vary from $3.99 to $7 for food purchases less than $35.

Additionally, groceries purchased online with an EBT card from Walmart Grocery are subject to a delivery fee varying from $7.95 to $9.95 depending on location.

You can save money on delivery fees with Walmart by signing up for unlimited delivery for $12.95 per month or $98 per year.

Can I Use EBT at Target online?

Yes, Target is now accepting SNAP EBT payments online through the company’s delivery service, Shipt.

SNAP EBT cardholders will be able to use their EBT card at checkout just like they’d use a credit or debit card.

In addition, they can choose same-day Drive Up or Order Pickup options at no additional cost.

Also, same-day grocery delivery will be available at Target.com for $9.99.

Does DoorDash take EBT?

No. Food delivery apps such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and PostMates do not currently accept EBT SNAP benefits.
